We've seen and heard many myths about ceramic coatings, and what they can, and can't do. We're going to debunk some of those myths in this brief article!
Does it keep rock chips from happening? Short answer, Yes. While it's adding a protective layer to your paint, it does have the ability to avoid rock chips from smaller projectiles. The ultimate in protection from rock chips is PPF.
Is it the same as PPF?
NO! PPF is the ultimate in paint protection. Nothing can compare to the durability and resistance of PPF installed on your paint.
Do I still have to wash my car?
Yes! This isn't some magical unicorn potion. It's a hydrophobic coating that uses a bunch of scientific terms to describe it. At the end of the day, it makes your vehicle's paint easier to maintain and keep clean. We still recommend a hand wash, once a month, using the "2 Bucket Method" (Find on YouTube). The spray detailer we provide you with is to be used monthly as well. This will help to maintain the coating and protect its longevity.
Can I still go through automatic car washes?
You can. Would we? NO. Automatic car washes use abrasive brushes/clothes that spin across your vehicle's paint. "But they're soft cloth brushes". Think about all the vehicles that went through the car wash before yours, and imagine the vehicle that travels to the mills daily, and all of the iron deposit/fallout gets stuck in those brushes, and now they're going to get scrubbed across your paint.
So the truth is........NO AUTOMATIC CAR WASHES REGARDLESS OF WHAT COATING IS ON YOUR PAINT. Avoid them at all costs. They're scratch factories. If you're going to use an automatic car wash, find a brushless one.
Can I do it in my garage myself with stuff I bought from Autozone?
Not all products are created equal. There are MANY steps that have to be done before you can apply coating to your vehicle. Autozone, or any local retailer do not sell true ceramic coatings. Remember, true ceramic coatings do not come out of a spray bottle. We have done 100's of hours of training, along with multiple certification programs to be able to apply coatings. YouTube can't teach you how to do a coating in one evening.
